Privacy notice

Plain-English summary: we collect very little, we don't sell data, and our own statistics are cookieless. We earn money from Amazon affiliate links and may show Google ads in future; this page explains the cookies those involve.

Who we are

replaced-by.ai is a free careers and education information site for readers in the UK and Europe. For anything about your data, email [email protected].

What we collect and why

Questions you type into "Ask"

When you submit a question, the text of the question is used to write an article, and the question is published on the site as part of that article. It is published anonymously: we don't ask for your name or email to ask a question, and we don't attach any identity to it. Please don't include personal details (names, contact details, health information) in a question, because the question text becomes public. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests: providing the service you asked for.

Contact form messages

If you use the contact form, we store your name, email address, topic and message so we can read and reply to it, and we may forward it to our own inbox by email. We also keep a one-way hash of your IP address for a short time to stop spam and limit repeat submissions; we don't keep the raw IP address. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests in answering your message and protecting the form from abuse. We delete contact messages when they are no longer needed to deal with your enquiry.

Visit statistics

We count page views with our own cookieless, first-party statistics. Each visit records the page path and the referring website's domain (for example google.com). To count unique visitors we use a one-way hash of the IP address; raw IP addresses are not stored. We use no cookies, no advertising identifiers and no third-party analytics. Daily statistics are kept for about 60 days and then deleted.

Hosting logs

The site runs on Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes standard request data (such as IP address, browser type and the page requested) to deliver the site and protect it from attacks, under its own privacy policy and data processing terms.

Spam protection (Cloudflare Turnstile)

Our forms use Cloudflare Turnstile, a privacy-focused alternative to CAPTCHAs, to check that a submission comes from a person. Turnstile processes limited technical signals from your browser for this check only.

Affiliate links (Amazon Associates)

As an Amazon Associate, replaced-by.ai earns from qualifying purchases. Some pages include a "Recommended reading & tools" box with links to Amazon UK searches, marked "(Amazon)" and tagged rel="sponsored". We only receive a commission if you buy; it costs you nothing extra. We don't set any cookies for this. If you click through, Amazon may set its own cookies to attribute the purchase, under Amazon's privacy notice. Recommendations are general and editorially chosen by topic; they are not personal advice.

Advertising and cookies (Google AdSense)

We may show adverts served by Google AdSense. If ads are enabled, third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet. You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies at aboutads.info and youronlinechoices.com. Learn more about how Google uses data from partner sites. Before any personalised ads run for visitors in the UK and EEA, we will show a consent message (a Google-certified consent tool) so you can accept or refuse advertising cookies; refusing still lets you use the whole site. Our lawful basis for advertising cookies is your consent.

Sponsored content

We may publish sponsored articles or category sponsorships from employers and training providers. These are always clearly labelled as sponsored, and sponsors do not get to change our editorial conclusions. See Sponsor replaced-by.ai.

AI processing

Questions you ask, and the inputs you type into our tools (such as a job title or course), are sent to OpenAI's API so it can draft the article or tool answer. OpenAI acts as our service provider. Under its API terms, data sent through the API is not used to train its models by default. Articles are AI-assisted, are not based on interviews or surveys, and are general information rather than personal advice.

What we don't do

  • No ad tracking in our own statistics, and no advertising cookies unless ads are enabled and, in the UK/EEA, you consent.
  • No sale or rental of personal data, ever.
  • No accounts, newsletters or sign-ups are required to use the site or tools.
  • No marketing emails unless you ask us for them.

Where data is processed

Cloudflare and OpenAI may process data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where that happens, they rely on recognised safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the UK–US data bridge.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to how we use it, or ask us to restrict its use. If a published question contains something that identifies you, tell us and we will edit or remove it. Email [email protected] and we will reply within one month. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Children

The site is designed to be useful to students, including sixth-formers. Because Ask questions are published, we ask everyone, especially younger readers, not to include names or personal details in questions.

Changes

If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and the date at the top.
